The Ranch at Emerald Valley – A Mildly Wild Wilderness Experience

If you love the isolation of the wilderness without giving up your home comforts, a hideaway-stay at The Ranch at Emerald Valley is a must to include in your itinerary for Colorado Springs.

Itโ€™s here where Spencer Rose, the original owner of The Broadmoor, came to recharge his batteries over 100 years ago – and itโ€™s easy to see why.

Some call it glamping, but The Ranch at Emerald Valley is an experience that can hardly be mentioned in the same breath as camping. How can it, with gas fireplaces, a hot tub, heated floors, electric fans, and all the modern amenities one could need in the wilderness?

Enjoying Cowboy Coffee around a firepit to start your day is possibly the closest youโ€™ll come to camping while staying at this ranch in Colorado. The rest of the time youโ€™ll be relaxing in and around one of only 10 luxury cabins hidden in the Pike National Forest.

Reasons to Stay at The Ranch at Emerald Valley

  • Despite being in the Colorado wilderness, guests of The Ranch at Emerald Valley have access to all the amenities of the Broadmoor. Free transport is provided between the two.

  • This Colorado ranch is surrounded by over 100,000 acres of the Pike National Forest with three designated wilderness areas – Buffalo Peaks, Lost Creek, and Mount Evans.

  • Pretty much everything is included in the price at this all-inclusive Colorado resort – from on-site activities like fishing and horseback riding to meals, snacks, and beverages.

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the grand lodge are a feast that will satisfy any hunger after working up a healthy appetite in the fresh mountain air.

  • There are real campfire flames to stare into while listening to live cowboy tunes twice a week. And dare I say cook sโ€™mores over the fire?

  • No matter how full the camp is, thereโ€™ll never be more than 32 guests at a time at this Colorado ranch – perfect if you want to get away from the crowds in the time of the pandemic.

  • Last but not least, The Ranch at Emerald Valley was voted the #1 resort in Colorado, #8 best resort in the U.S., and #43 best resort in the world at the 2017 Conde Nast Travelers Readers’ Choice Awards.

The ten rustic cabins at this exclusive Colorado ranch each have a distinct Rocky Mountain frontier touch. They come in different sizes – from one bedroom for a romantic coupleโ€™s getaway to two and three bedrooms for larger families or groups.

Needless to say, each cabin has a private bath. The smaller Cedar, Aspen, Pinon, and Ponderosa cabins all sleep two and are adjacent to each other in one building. There are also two small standalone cabins – Fir and Pine.

The Hill cabin sleeps eight and also features a full kitchen. The Copper and Lakeside Cabins both sleep four in two bedrooms.ย

Not a cabin per se, but the Longs Peak Lodge Room is connected to the lodge and handicap accessible. See this plan for a better idea of the layout of The Ranch at Emerald Valley if youโ€™re interested in booking.

Each cabin has a sitting area, stone fireplace (gas), humidifier, and small comforts like hairdryers, bathrobes, sandals, shampoo, and conditioner. Do not expect a TV. After all, you want to be in the Colorado wilderness, donโ€™t you?

5+ Things to Do at The Ranch at Emerald Valley

  • Hiking – Experience the exhilaration of hiking up Mount Vigil, the peak you can see from the Ranch at Emerald Valley. Many other hiking trails and climbs start here in the Colorado wilderness.

  • Horseback Riding – Discover historic sites on remote trails while looking up at the Gray Back Peak towering over you or go down Emerald Valley Road at a leisurely trot. You can even join an adventure to herd cattle on horseback.

  • Fly Fishing – The chances of being successful at fly fishing is pretty good at this Colorado ranch. Why? The fishing lakes are fully stocked with rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and brown trout. And if you ask nicely, the chef will cook up your catch for you.

  • Archery, canoeing, mountain biking, tetherball, and all the activities offered at The Broadmoor.
