Desroches Island is 140 miles southwest of Victoria, the capital of Seychelles on Mahé island. With a circumference of 9 miles, it’s the main island of the Amirante Islands, which are part of the group of outer islands of Seychelles.

The island got its current name (L’ile des Roches in French) in 1771 in honor of François Julien des Roches, governor of Mauritius and Réunion. Before this, British explorers named Desroches Wood Island due to its dense vegetation.

Unlike the main islands of Seychelles with their granite boulders and forested hills, Desroches is a low lying coral island.

Most of Desroches Island Seychelles is covered in coconuts, which are exported. Timber production is the other main economic activity.

Enjoy the View from The Lighthouse – The lighthouse on Desroches Seychelles is the perfect place to unwind even further at the end of the day. You can climb to the top for amazing sea and island views or have a sundowner in the cocktail lounge. Afterwards, The Lighthouse will treat you to seafood and grilled meats in their beach restaurant.
